What can you do to honor a Veteran?
I’ve been asked this question a number of times so I thought I would give it a bit more thought this year.
I’m often thanked through a handshake or a hug coupled with, “Thank you for your service.” This act is truly appreciated. I’m honored and humbled every single time. Veterans are also thanked with discounts or even free meals. Again, these things are greatly appreciated and valued. We are thankful for these kind gestures as well.
But the one way you can truly honor Veterans is often overlooked and pretty straightforward, live the American dream! Every sacrifice made on the battlefield was to ensure our freedoms. To live a life that’s not in pursuit of happiness, that’s not living the American dream, that’s not taking advantage of the freedoms our great country offer is allowing those sacrifices to go to waste.
So, if you want to honor Veterans on Veterans Day and everyday going forward take advantage of our freedoms. Appreciate them, but put them to work!
Work to achieve unimaginable things.
Never give up on your dreams.
Take risks!
And work to unify, not divide. We are called the United States of America and yet we can look divided depending on who’s lens you’re looking through. But don’t be fooled. Our country is great! Our people are free! And I believe we’re not as divided as some may lead us to believe.
The last few years I’ve had the honor to speak at a number of schools. One of the schools I spoke to put on an amazing event this year! I was nearly in tears a number of times. Thank you Taylor Ray Elementary for the reminder of how amazing our country is.
“We honor you, we honor you. For sacrifices made, for courage you displayed.”
Happy Veterans Day to all my brothers and sisters in arms. We honor you today!
